Pearl Shell Blouse Early 20th century Bila-an People Mindanao, Southern Philippines This indigo dyed cotton blouse is highly embellished with tiny mother of pearl disks and white trade beads. The lustrous sequins were individually cut, drilled and ground from pearl oyster shell. The finished edges and shoulder seams of the garment are highly embroidered and there are two colorful thread tassels at the throat.
